Review: GEO Flower Lotus Gray

Hai hai ~

Here is my second grey lens review of A/W 2014 (and last of this season)!

This time I decided to try a grey lens with a really bold pattern, for kurogal/oraora style! Even though I have never dressed oraora, and I don't think I could with the wardrobe I have (lol), the style is pretty awesome so perhaps I could incorporate some of it into my daily fashion with awesome lenses!

As usual, I went to GEO/EOS on my hunt for lenses. In the end, these are the two brands I absolutely trust in the market. There are so many new brands coming out in droves, it's hard to imagine that any would have developed a good formula, or one that's better than such established brands right?? (I bought these before EyeCandy's kindly sent me the Royal Vision Bella 4 Tone Gray)

I always wanted to try a pair of lenses that had a pattern like diamonds on it, even though the design is really in-your-face and super unnatural ><

Now, on to the review!

Even though these lenses appear to have a small amount of space in the middle for the iris, it's never obstructed my vision. The lenses feel a little stiff (compared to EOS Ice series), but they're not really drying. It's just quite noticeable that you're wearing lenses. Sometimes with the ice series I really do forget why my vision is so clear without glasses on (lol)!

I think perhaps contacts with large black limbal rings appear smaller than they actually are? The enlargement is not as much as I would expect from an 15.0mm. It feels more like...14.5~14.8 perhaps?

They don't look 15.0mm...

I guess in terms of natural-ness, it's actually pretty good for lenses with a diamond-like pattern. The light grey pattern, though opaque, is not as obvious as I thought it would be since all the colors are in small specks and there are a few shades of grey. Especially since the edge of my iris is not that obvious as the grey is rather opaque, and the pattern diamond-like anyway. However, the inner edge where the grey ends is quite obvious, which I dislike.

Ratings

Design: 5/5 - probably the most natural diamond pattern lenses on the market?

Comfort: 4/5 - feels a little thick

Enlargement: 3/5 - not as much as I was expecting

Overall: 4/5

These lenses would look great with really heavy eye makeup ora ora/rokku style though!

Review: GEO Olive Brown Circle Lens

Every year I will open a smaller diameter lens for uni use, as 14.5mm is really really bad for my eyes (though 14.00mm is not really that much smaller actually...). Late last year I realised how much I use circle lenses, so I have decided it's best to do a half year / 1/3 year rotation of lenses since my lenses seem to feel dry far before their year is up.

Anyway, My dedicated uni/formal occasion lenses for A/W 2014 are GEO Olive brown!

I've had my eyes set on trying these lenses since high school or something! A long time ago, GEO had a circle lens series named Wing, which may or may not have had a slighter more solid black ring than these olive lenses. The wing lenses were discontinued eventually for some reason unbeknownst to me, and they released Olive as the 'revamped verson'. I've been looking to these lenses since the days of GEO wing haha~ (I feel so old!)

Let's start with the basics-

Power: 0.00 ~ -10.00

Diameter : 14.2mm

Water Content : 38~42%

Base Curve : 8.60mm

First of all, I don't know why the listings for these lenses say 38-42% water content. Like, is it actually 38, but you think it could go up to 42% so that number is just chucked in there?? Make up your mind GEO! >:l

Actually the truth is, I have no idea how water content in contact lenses is measured or anything. This is just the first time I've seen a label that didn't clearly state the water content % as one number .-.

Again, like my EOS Ice Brown review, I've lost the photo of the lens in its bottle so...here's another stock photo of the lens :D

The ring around the edge isn't black, but a dark brown. The dark brown isn't actually that dark, so it looks quite convincing on my brown eyes. I generally avoid lenses that have a rather solid ring around the centre where the color ends, instead I prefer lenses that have rays, so it blends better with my iris, but I trusted these would be okay....and they are! Also, the amount of space they leave in the centre is really nice.

I've bought lenses in the past where that space for the pupil is so tiny that i often saw color when i look around. Obviously there's something wrong with the fact that my lenses weren't following my eye movement entirely, but still, not leaving enough space for the iris is an error in design too.

The color of the lens has more red than my iris, so sometimes it looks a bit odd. Especially when I use flash. In fact I think the entire lens color is slightly darker than my iris....

Ratings

Design: 5/5 - the design is perfect for a 14.2mm lens

Comfort: 5/5 - can be worn from early morning to late evening comfortably. NOT RECOMMENDED THOUGH

Enlargement: 3/5 - I live on 14.5mm+ lenses. For a 14.2, these are pretty good though.

Overall: 4/5 - would purchase again.

I may try other series for 'uni-lenses' but these are definitely a safe option if you don't want to look around and try a whole bunch for yourself :)

Review: EOS Ice Brown Circle Lens

Haiiiiiiiii~

This is my second lens review for A/W 2014, of my favourite lenses at that! Woot!

It seems like I am always behind on reviews lol. I (try to) get new lenses every half year, and these have been open since early Feb so they're already reaching the end of their time with me wtf. Time flies by so fast this year!! QAQ

I bought these lenses last year sometime, after I tried on the EOS Ice Violet lenses and absolutely fell in love with the series. There isn't much to say about these lenses - they're just as comfortable as the Ice Violet, the pattern just as pretty, etc. etc.! But anyway I'll go through the whole review shebang cause, why not.

Something I didn't actually pick up the last time I reviewed EOS Ice is that the water content is actually less than some lenses that say 42%. However, these lenses don't dry on my eyes at all! Quite strange? It makes me wonder how much I can trust the numbers written on circle lenses...

Also the B/C on these lenses is 8.8, larger than the usual 8.6! I haven't gotten my eyes checked in a while, but if circle lenses often feel really uncomfortable on you, it's likely to be because the B/C doesn't fit you.

Unfortunately I lost the photo of the lens inside the bottle when my netbook died, so here's the stock photo.

The stock photo makes the lens look more yellow than it really is. Indeed the lens is more 'yellow' than 'brown', but the yellow just isn't quite this saturated IRL.

I really liked how these lenses have a thin black ring around the edge with small rays reaching towards the centre. At first this was what drew me to the lenses when I had my violet pair, but on the brown it's much easier to see the edge of my iris below the brown/yellow color. The centre of the lenses blend really well with my iris color, which is absolutely perfect. The lighter colors of this series will probably blend better on people with lighter eye color though, to avoid the weird edge-of-your-iris showing...

Don't get me wrong, the halo effect is pretty nice when you look at it from far away, but sometimes (for example, when I look to the far left) it look screepy. Just. Downright. Creepy. ><

Because of their large diameter, I very very rarely wear them to uni. Hence, I've only worn them probably less than a dozen times this half year. They're still super comfortable for long hours (6-~8hrs easily), perhaps because the B/C is right for me? Anyway, I'll probably keep these for a while longer till they start getting dry ^^;

Design: 4/5 - color opacity is not enough for this this color

Comfort: 5/5 - obviously

Enlargement: 5/5 - duh

Overall: 4/5 - unfortunately the fact that the edge of my iris is so visible is a big no no. It's fine in photos cause I can meitu the sh*t out of it, but IRL, nope.

I think the next colors I will purchase in this series are blue and pink. I don't have either of those colors right now, and in fact, I don't think I've tried any pink lenses since EOS Candy Pink many years ago...!?!?

Review: Royal Vision Bella 4 Tone Gray

This will be my last first review of my A/W 2014 lenses!

First of all, a big thank you to EyeCandy's for sending me these lenses. There was a slight mixup with the shipping address (because we were corresponding by email, not the first time I've encountered this with sponsors) but they were super kind, polite, and quick to respond the entire process!

Usually I would choose something from GEO or EOS, but I couldn't find any more lenses I wanted to try from those brands, and I wasn't particularly inclined to have two EOS Ice series open at the same time (have you noticed my obsession with the Ice series yet? lol). So this time, I thought I should be fair and try out a brand that I haven't used before - after all, there may be some really good new brands out there!

I chose the Royal Vision Bella 4 Tone Gray (wtf such a long name) because the pattern looked like it would be natural on my eyes. After being metaphorically burnt by the sheerness of my EOS Ice Brown, I really wanted this one to blend into my iris well. Especially since the diameter is so big!

First time I noticed on actually reading the product description, is that Royal Vision uses the same equipment as Vassen (denoted by "Vassen OEM"). Which is good. I like Vassen. The Crystal blue lenses I reviewed are the best blue ones I've ever had, and they're Vassen. This is the first time I've seen a brand clearly stating an affiliation with another brand's manufacturing plant though. I did, on a few occasions some years ago, hear through the grapevine that some lenses from different companies were theoretically identical because the designs were the same, and the quality was difficult to tell apart...

Anyhow, moving on. The water content of 42% is pretty fair. Though I don't think I can feel a difference between 38% and 42%, it's always good to get something with higher water content, yeah?

The diameter of 14.5 was actually quite surprising to me. Thing with circle is that the diameter shown in their specs doesn't always relate to the size of the color - the diameter just says how wide the lens piece is. Hence, some lenses have color printed closer to the edge than others, and thus appear larger. This is one of those! Despite being 14.5mm, it looks absolutely massive and I love it~ ❤

Watch out for the fact that these lenses are 6 month disposables. Usually the circle lenses are yearly, and the more international brands like acuvue come in dailies, fortnightly, and monthlies, but this is the first half-year circle lenses I've seen. Rightly so, too, as I'll explain later.

From the daylight image, you can actually still clearly see the edge of my iris behind the lenses. I guess the grey isn't that opaque in these lenses either, but they don't make me look as weird as with the eos ice brown lenses? I look a bit blind sometimes, but you know, that's alright. X'D

I really really love the specks of brown between the grey (more visible in indoor lighting), and how long the rays of black are. They blend my iris color with the grey on the lenses much better than lenses with only shades of grey. This design is the best for darker colored eyes to achieve the perfect teary eye look! >w<

Ratings

Design: 5/5 - Luuuuuuuuuuuurve!

Comfort: 3/5 - Thick and dries rather quickly. Mostly just thick.

Enlargement: 5/5 - Would give it 10/5 if I could. It's the perfect size imo!

Overall: 5/5 - It's just too pretty to not give it full rating *V*

Ok so about the comfort; these lenses are possibly the thickest lenses I've used so far. It's not that they dry up per se, but rather they are so thick that my eye feels dehydrated and lacking in oxygen really quickly, so it becomes uncomfortable. On the day I took photos for these, I also took photos for the 3 other lenses I'm reviewing for A/W 2014. This was the first pair I tried on, and the difference as I changed between the four pairs in less than four hours was quite noticeable. In terms of dry-ness, GEO Flower Lotus were probably the worst, but in terms of thickness, this pair wins by miles. It's funny, because the description for these lenses states that they are "thin and breathable".
Perhaps it's just this pair? I will try another pair by Royal Vision some time to test if my theory is right. They're not scratchy or uncomfortable in any other way, just not very breathable.

I bought these lenses around September last year (my final CL purchase of the year) when I decided to cosplay SeeU for Armageddon. Sadly, I wasnt able to buy a commissioned dress, and being typical slow lazy me, exams crept up and I didn't end up sewing my own cosplay. I still have the fabric and all the accessories though, so I will do it this year!

Ok that was a big tangent. Back to the review!

I bought these lenses because I needed something very blue, but light, and doesn't have a big limbal ring. Even though she has a clear black limbal ring in her box cover illustration, her eyes are so blue that on cosplay, it wouldn't stand out if I used a lens with a dark ring.

I hunted ALL over the internet, and found the lightest, most limbal-less and large blue lenses I could find- Vassen Crystal Blue. Which are apparently also called i-Fairy Super Crystal Blue.

Every year, I will buy at least one pair of lenses in a brownish sort of colorwhether it be more of a chocolate, caramel, or some other shade. Geo Bambi Almond was my brown for 2013

I bought it near the start of the year, and loved it so much that I didn’t feel the need to buy any more! If it weren’t for the fact that there are sooo many lenses on the market I haven’t tried yet, I would honestly just keep re-purchasing these lenses every year. Forever.

These were the first blue lenses of 2013. In earlier years, I had an obsession with green lenses and I would get a pair of green every year. But in 2012 (I think?) green lenses started looking really odd on me :’(

As much as I love green eyes, it was time to wave goodbye to those. And since I always loved grey lenses, and they worked well on me, I thought “well, why not try other cool colors, like blue?”

So in 2013, I went for this super super solid EOS Max Pure Blue pair of lenses, in my usual 14.5mm! (They are indeed very pure though, not so sure about the max...)

Photoshoot on Auckland Anniversary Day

Yesterday (the last monday of January?) is the annual Auckland Anniversary Day.

I stupidly thought that there would be no-one out on this day, and requested to do my photoshoot for PretzelPOP magazine at the beautiful and new(ish) Silo Park in downtown Auckland. It's a perfect location for the style of photos I wanted-

But no. Silly me didn't realise ahead of time that Silo Park, the prettiest and most tourist-attracting place in town would be the prime location for hosting Auckland's anniversary festival.

Sometimes I feel like my brain is floating in some other dimension :/

Anyhow, my photographer yesterday (Anniv. Day) is from our uni photography club. It was the first time I got to work with someone from our uni, and omg the shoot was so fast. Like, is this how it should be? 'Cause I'm totally loving it >0<!! Plus, the photos came out suuuuuper nice. I've only seen them on the camera, at the shoot, but I bet when they've been processed they will be absolutely stunning eep!

Like, I kid you not, I felt like i was on one of these spreads:

The photos may not be out for a while. They will come out on PretzelPOP first since I don't want to ruin the surprise of magazine spreads before the first issue comes out, but I will be blogging up any extra photos from the shoot ^^

GEO Eyescream Review [Confetti]

Today I am posting the long-awaited GEO eyescream review! This series consist of (brown)Chocomousse, (hazel) Vanilla Brown, and (gray) Rayray Gray lenses.

The lenses were sent to us by GEO coloured lenses in October *last year* during exam period, so we never got around to doing a full photoshoot for them ><

We considered leaving this review until Cora got back from Europe so that we could do a full shoot, but it’s just too far off ><

So yup, this review is just going to come from visually impaired me today!

TBH when I first heard about these lenses, i expected some dreamy swirly super big and dolly lenses. And when I got the lenses, my first thought was “oh wow, they’re actually really natural…*insert disappointment*”

It’s actually been quite a while since i really splurged on GEO lenses, since I’ve been really after the OTT colors and super large lenses that don’t look natural at all. It’s actually quite nice to try these for a change!
